Curriculum

The School aims to provide its curriculum to the needs of the individual child. It provides a stimulating environment in which pupils receive the desirable amount of individual attention. In such circumstances the talents of every child are encouraged to develop. The prime aim of the school is to provide a thorough grounding in preparation for entry to a wide variety of senior schools, while at the same time establishing the self-confidence to successfully meet new, as yet unforeseen, challenges and that sense of belonging to a society in which they can fully participate as citizens.

Emphasis is placed on developing each child to reach their full potential in small classes. We provide an intimate and friendly atmosphere in which children learn to work and play together, and to seek standards of excellence. A sound and thorough grounding in basic skills is provided to equip children to prepare with confidence for their senior schools.

Boys and girls are carefully and conscientiously prepared for examination work, but examinations are not allowed to dominate the curriculum. A wide range of subjects are taught in a systematic and progressive style and the timetable is flexible so that project work may be included. Particular attention is devoted to equipping children with fundamental skills on which later academic work will depend, while at the same time fostering creativity.

Homework is vital to the success of any pupil and it encourages habits of independent study. It is set consistently and is intended to extend and build on work done in the classroom. There are regular written reports to parents and also Parents’ Consultation evenings.
